CHILDREN could face a two-hour “app cap” social media curfew under new plans to tighten online safety.

- By Stephen Beech

Technology Secretary Peter Kyle has indicated he was considering proposals for a cap to limit online access for teens outside of school time and before 10pm.

It is one of a series of measures being examined to restrict how much time youngsters spend on their phones in a bid to tackle “addictive” behaviour.

But online safety campaigners warned “sticking plasters” were not enough to fix the growing problem.

Mr Kyle said: “I’m looking at things that prevent healthy activity, I’m looking at some of the addictive nature of some apps and smartphones.
