Missing the odd word in a noisy setting is nothing unusual, but two in five over-45s may be bluffing their way through conversations due to hearing loss.

A survey found 38% sometimes pretend they have heard something when they have not, to avoid asking someone to repeat themselves. Almost half noticed changes to their hearing in the past year, with 18% struggling to hear dialogue on TV.
