Trump scuppers 'big, bad' Navy

DONALD Trump’s increasing attacks on the UK are like wild bursts from a sub-machine gun.

His firing from the hip is mostly hopelessly inaccurate — but some of his bullets undoubtedly slam home.Take Trump’s pronouncements over recent days against the Royal Navy. Yes, it was absurd of him to describe our aircraft carriers as “toys”. They're serious pieces of floating capability, slightly smaller than America’s behemoths, it’s true, but still more than able to pack a world-class punch.

That is, when they’re available and seaworthy.

Both our carriers - HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Queen Elizabeth - appear to spend more time languishing in dock undergoing repairs and maintenance than they do out on the briny.

Like so many of His Majesty’s warships, they seem to be almost constantly plagued by gremlins and glitches.
