Senior Tory Robert Jenrick hits out at judiciary for failing to deport illegal migrants
BRITAIN'S ability to deport criminals and failed asylum seekers could be undermined by "activist" judges, warns Robert Jenrick.
A recruitment drive for 70 part-time roles has been blasted by the Shadow Justice Secretary who fears pro-immigration judges will slip through the net and allow more “fraudulent” asylum claims to get through the system.
Mr Jenrick warned there would be “even more immigration madness” and added: “The public are already sick to death of activist judges.”
Confidence in the immigration tribunal system has already been shaken by a string of rulings blocking the deportation of rapists, drug dealers and violent offenders.
Mr Jenrick is calling for a radical shakeup of the judicial appointments process, insisting on far tougher background checks for would-be justices.
Writing in today’s Daily Express, he said: “The Judicial Appointments Commission is recruiting a huge number of part-time judges.
“Unless the JAC gets its act together and starts conducting proper background checks, we will see an influx of judges with links to open-border causes.
