THE boss of struggling Thames Water has insisted it is right to splurge £770,000 on bosses' bonuses as he called for steep hikes to bills to be approved next week.

Regulators have said it is not justified to use customer cash to fund the payouts.

But chief executive Chris Weston claimed the bonuses were essential to "attract talent" to the company.

He added: "If we don't offer competitive packages, people will not come and work at Thames."
