Tech to detect if an avocado is ripe

A NEW in-store avocado scanner could make easy the tricky task of choosing the perfect avocado.

Instead of the usual judicious prodding of the shoppers’ favourite, the infrared tech can examine the insides and decide in seconds.

It is now going on trial in five Tesco stores and will either say the fruit is immediately ready for smashing or better sliced in a salad.
