Student midwives 'can't get jobs as NHS uses international staffing'

Fury as graduates are told there is no work

MIDWIFERY organisations are calling for British students to be given priority when it comes to jobs.

Many trainees often work for free during their studies — then find there are no full-time roles available for them in the NHS due to a focus on international recruitment.

Last year, the Royal College of Midwives reported there was a shortage of 2,500 roles.

Yet students due to graduate later this year claim that just eight jobs are being advertised in hospitals across the country, with each role attracting at least 80 applicants.
