Streeting dodges social care cap pledge
Daily Express
|May 30, 2024
CAMPAIGNERS have challenged Labour to say if it plans to ditch the social care cap, after Wes Streeting sidestepped questions about its future.
The £86,000 limit on contributions and expanded means test to stop people being forced to sell their homes is due to come in next year.
Shadow Health Secretary Mr Streeting, who appeared with Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer in Worcester yesterday, was quizzed by a radio programme whether a Labour government would stick to the plan.
He said: "What I want to make sure is that we have a well-funded and well-managed social care system.
"As with other challenges we will inherit if we win the next General Election, this is going to take time and I'm honest about that."
