Strangeways prison 'should be torn down'

A VICTORIAN prison home to some of Britain's most notorious killers could be pulled down and relocated.

Moors murderer Ian Brady, violent Charles Bronson and celebrities including Bargain Hunt's David Dickinson, the Stone Roses' Ian Brown and ex-footballer Joey Barton were all imprisoned at high-security Strangeways.

The 744-inmate jail, officially known as HMP Manchester, was opened in 1868. In 1990 it made headlines for what was then the longest UK prison riot.
