Seven out of ten expect tax rises

...but just a third think they're needed

MOST people are dreading tax hikes to be announced by Rachel Reeves in her autumn Budget, according to grim polling.

Seven out of 10 (71%) expect the overall level of tax will go up but only 32% believe the rises are necessary.

Reform UK voters are the most pessimistic about the November 26 statement, with 78% expecting Ms Reeves to hike taxes.

Pollsters YouGov found Tory voters also expect to take a greater hit (74%), compared with 52% of Labour backers anticipating paying more to the Treasury.
