Relief at judge-led probe into Notts attacks 'within weeks'
Daily Express
|February 13, 2025
THE Prime Minister yesterday told the families of the Nottingham attack victims that a judge-led public inquiry would take place in "a matter of weeks".
In an emotional meeting at No 10, the families of Barnaby Webber, Grace O'Malley-Kumar and Ian Coates were informed by Sir Keir Starmer that a "number of different agencies" faced scrutiny in the probe.
Valdo Calocane, 33, killed 19-year-old students Mr Webber and Ms O'MalleyKumar and 65-year-old caretaker Mr Coates before attempting to kill three others in the city in June 2023.
He was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in January 2024 after admitting manslaughter by diminished responsibility and attempted murder. The PM said focusing on just one aspect of the case would not be right as he did not "think that will do justice".
