Prodigy who grew up to loathe corporate greed accused of CEO murder

POLICE in the US have charged a "genius" graduate and maths prodigy with the murder of a multi-millionaire health insurance boss who was gunned down in the street.

The arrest of data engineer Luigi Mangione, 26, at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on Monday, brought an end to a six-day manhunt that gripped America.

Mangione was charged yesterday with murder and other crimes, including weapons offences.

Last night he tussled with police outside court before he appeared for an extradition approval to New York.

He shouted to reporters: "It's extremely out of touch and an insult to the intelligence of the American people and the lived experience."

UnitedHealthCare chief executive and father-of-two Brian Thompson, 50, was gunned down from behind as he made his way to speak at a New York hotel early last Wednesday.
