Private clinic is first to offer dementia drug NHS rejected
Daily Express
|January 28, 2025
A UK clinic has become the first in Europe to roll out two Alzheimer's wonder drugs privately after they were rejected for NHS use.
Lecanemab and donanemab received the green light from regulators last year but the benefits were deemed "too small to justify the costs" to the health service.
Re:Cognition Health, based in London's Harley Street, administered its first dose of donanemab on Friday and started prescribing lecanemab - brand name Leqembi - in November. The clinic has played a major role in trials of both treatments.
Medical director Dr Emer MacSweeney called it "a significant milestone in the fight against Alzheimer's disease", adding: "We are proud to continue leading the way in providing access to life-changing therapies."
