ASDA has kick-started a potential price war at the pumps after a drop in wholesale fuel prices.

Prices at the pumps begin to fall from a 6-month high

The supermarket giant's 4p-a-litre reduction, which was put in place yesterday, applies to petrol and diesel at all its Asda and Asda Express branded sites.

The reduction means average prices at Asda forecourts are now 132p a litre for petrol and 137.6p for diesel.

This compares with average costs across the UK of 138.6p for petrol and 145.8p for diesel.

Asda's price drop comes after the RAC said fuel prices should come down from their current six-month high after wholesale prices decreased.
