PM'S BATTLE CRY 'WE'VE GOT TO MOVE ON FROM HIGH TAXES'

He plans to "move on" from the high-tax, high-spend, and high-borrowing era of the pandemic to create a brighter future.

Writing in the Daily Express, the PM pledged he will take the right decisions, not the easy ones, but he warned Labour would put that hard work at risk with £28billion of unfunded spending plans.

Now that the inflation rate has fallen dramatically from its punishing double-digit record high, Mr Sunak said that it was time for the country to change gear from the "high-tax approach that was necessary to get us through Covid and the energy crisis".

The Prime Minister added: "Now is the time to look forward.

"To do the right thing, not the easy thing for pensioners and for everyone in our country.

"To take long-term decisions to build a brighter future. And only this government has the right plan to do that." In a moving depiction of his own upbringing, Mr Sunak admitted that he owes "everything" to his family background.

His father Yashvir and mother Usha met when they migrated to the UK. Yasvir became an GP in the NHS, while Usha ran a neighbourhood pharmacy.

The PM went on: "They overcame huge odds to give our family a better future."

Mr Sunak said every family will have their own stories of sacrifice.
