Plea for diagnosis to be left to doctors after clot blunder

DOCTORS' leaders have called for less-qualified physician associates to be banned from diagnosing patients after a fatal blood clot was missed.
Emily Chesterton visited a PA, who she believed to be a GP, with signs of a pulmonary embolism. But she was sent home with anxiety medication.
She died in November 2022, three weeks after her 30th birthday.
Yesterday, the British Medical Association shared guidance on the scope of roles for PAs, who were introduced to support doctors.
