Pin badge tribute made with sand from D-Day beach

POPPY lapel badges handcrafted with sand from D-Day's Gold Beach are being sold to commemorate the invasion's 80th anniversary.
The limited edition items include metal shavings of landing craft LCT 7074, which had a pivotal role in the Second World War operation.
The £45 pin was designed as a tribute to those who served on June 6, 1944. All the money raised will go to the Royal British Legion, which helps the Armed Forces community.
Obstacles
Some 25,000 troops stormed Gold with the objective of capturing Bayeux, holding the CaenBayeux road and linking up with US forces from the Omaha landing.
High winds caused the tide to rise more quickly than expected, covering anti-invasion obstacles installed by German defenders.
By the end of the first day British troops had advanced around six miles inland to meet the Canadian 3rd Division, which had landed on Juno Beach to the east.
