Out! Wimbledon gets rid of line judges

UMPIRES dressed in shirts and ties shouting "Out!" will be no more at Wimbledon as line judges are being replaced by technology.

Along with Sir Andy Murray and strawber ries and cream, they are a familiar part of the British tennis summer. But the All England Club has bowed to the wider trend of substituting humans, which has already taken place at the Australian and US Open tournaments.

Since 2007, Hawk-Eye has assisted officials on certain courts with players able to challenge line calls, but it will now be fully automated across the site, including at qualifying.
