'Nurse Death'...junior doctors' nickname for Lucy Letby

BABY killer Lucy Letby was dubbed "Nurse Death" by junior doctors before police even started investigating her, the public inquiry into her crimes heard yesterday.

Letby, 34, became the worst child killer in modern UK history, receiving 15 whole-life sentences for murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven more at Countess of Chester Hospital.

Her two separate Manchester Crown Court trials both raised worrying questions about the way the hospital handled consultants' concerns about the nurse.

The Thirlwall Inquiry, named after chair Lady Justice Thirlwall, has now heard the nurse was removed from non-clinical duties after the deaths of two triplet boys and the suspected collapse of another boy on three successive days in June 2016.

But the inquiry was told that, by September 2016, junior doctors at the hospital were referring to Letby as "Nurse Death" due to her proximity to a number of the baby collapses and fatalities.
