Second hurricane will bring gales and yet more rain

BRITAIN faces a double battering this week as Hurricane Lee fades away, only to be replaced by Hurricane Nigel on Sunday.

The tail end of Lee, which hit the US last weekend, lashed the UK yesterday with the Met Office issuing a yellow warning for heavy rain across parts of the South-East until the early hours today.

Some areas were expected to see 15 to 20mm of rainfall within an hour and up to 30 to 40mm over two to three hours, bringing a small chance of flooding, the Met Office said.

In the last few days there has been more than 150mm of rainfall in both Cumbria and Snowdonia, over 100mm in the Brecon Beacons and more than 80mm in Dartmoor.
