Marquee and cabin classrooms as builders fix danger

BUILDERS have swung into action to get rid of RAAC in dozens of schools across England

The Department for Education has refused to disclose the full list of closures, but 52 schools have already had repairs.

The Government has said 104 more must fully or partially close over fears they could suddenly collapse.

Workers arrived at Willowbrook Mead Primary Academy in Leicester yesterday to start removing the lightweight concrete from buildings.

Parents were told it would be shut on Monday. Older pupils will be given home schooling.

Suspect

Two other local schools, Parks and Mayflower primaries, have also been affected, Leicester City Council said.

Mayflower had already been shut earlier this year over structural concerns.

Both schools are working with the authority to arrange alternative accommodation as quickly as possible to make sure children are still taught face-to-face.

Pupils at St Francis Catholic Primary School in Ascot, where RAAC was discovered in July, will use marquees as temporary classrooms.
