Make tech firms pay victims of web scams, Barclays says

TECH companies should help to reimburse the victims of social media purchase scams, bosses at Barclays have said.

It comes as data from the bank revealed a jump in the number of online con tricks that have affected British shoppers.

Purchase scams - where people buy goods that never arrive or are not as advertised now account for two thirds of all reported cons, according to the research.

Barclays revealed that 88% of these crimes - which cause victims to lose on average £1,000 start on social media platforms.
