Lovely British bubbly beats French

CORKS are popping at a British vineyard whose bubbly has been declared the best in the world — beating traditional favourites from Champagne.

Nyetimber’s Blanc de Blancs is the first non-French fizz to be named Champion Sparkling Wine in the prestigious International Wine Challenge.

And the West Sussex vineyard was celebrating a double win because its head vintner Cherie Spriggs was crowned Sparkling Winemaker of the Year in the annual awards.

Judges called Nyetimber’s Blane de Blancs Magnum 2016 as a “time capsule of a wine” the 1.5-litre magnum at £130 beat bottles from Champagne at nearly double the price.
