Letby 'offered place at top children's hospital while suspected of murder'

The country's most prolific child killer was allegedly told that she could spend time at the renowned Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool, which treats 250,000 youngsters a year.

Letby, 33, was also informed she could have support to do a master's degree or advanced nurse training, according to reports.

Investigation

She was convicted on Friday of murdering seven babies and trying to kill six more at the Countess of Chester Hospital between June 2015 and June 2016.

She faces a whole life order when she is sentenced at Manchester Crown Court today.

Cheshire Police have now been given £5million to investigate the cases of 4,000 babies whose care she was involved with, including some at Liverpool Women's Hospital, where she did some of her training. Two babies died while she was there. Internal documents are said to show that Letby was to be offered a placement at Alder Hey along with support for a master's degree or training.

The hospital has said it has no record of being approached.
