ARNE SLOT has walked on water since striding into Anfield to replace Jurgen Klopp.

He won the Premier League title at the first attempt. And at one stage had Liverpool on course for a quadruple.

And he won a new legion of admirers for somehow making his team better than it had become under Klopp.

But he is now in danger of dropping beneath the surface, as he discovers it's much harder to remain at the top, than to reach it in the first place.

Successive defeats should bring Slot’s issues into sharp focus. The common belief is that defences win teams titles. And Liverpool's has not been strong enough.
