Katy Perry roars into space with historic all-woman crew
Daily Express
|April 15, 2025
GIRL power blasted into the space age when pop star Katy Perry and five other women completed the first all-female group flight.
The suborbital mission launched from Blue Origin’s West Texas site at 9.30am local time yesterday.
Lasting 10 minutes and 21 seconds, the all-civilian flight reached the Karman Line, the internationally recognised boundary of space.
The capsule, operated by billionaire Jeff Bezos’s space technology firm, spent four minutes in microgravity before descending under parachutes and landing safely in the Texas desert.
It was crewed by Roar singer Katy, 40, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, 38, US TV anchor Gayle King, 70, entrepreneur and researcher Amanda Nguyen, 33, film producer Kerianne Flynn and Bezos’s fiancee, journalist Lauren Sanchez, 55.
Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman to orbit Earth in 1963, but yesterday’s feat marked the first all-female group flight to space.
After touching down, Katy emerged from the ship and held a daisy up to the sky in honour of her daughter Daisy, four, then kissed it.
Flipping her hair with a swish, she then headed down the ladder, got down on her hands and knees and kissed the ground.
