Iranian 'went to protests to boost claim to stay in UK'

AN ASYLUM seeker has won the right to a new hearing following a judge's ruling that he went on protests against his home country of Iran to bolster his claim to stay in Britain.

The unnamed man argued that he is at risk in Iran because of his attendance at demos and for Facebook posts he made containing comments critical of the government there.

However, an immigration tribunal heard that this took place after the man - who was 16 when he moved to the UK - had his original asylum application rejected by the Home Office.

A judge said the asylum seeker's motivations to involve himself in such activity were insincere.
