Mum speaks out after inquest ruling on Brit shot by dad in US
A BRITISH woman shot dead by her alcoholic father in Texas was failed by US gun laws, her mum said yesterday.
Jane Coates spoke out after a UK coroner ruled that Lucy Harrison was unlawfully killed.
The 23-year-old Boohoo fashion buyer, from Warrington, Cheshire, was about to leave dad Kris’s home for the airport on January 10 last year when she was fatally wounded.
He claimed the gun, which he kept in his bedside cabinet, had gone off accidentally.
But senior coroner Jacqueline Devonish said: “To shoot her through the chest whilst she was standing would have required him to have been pointing the gun at his daughter, without checking for bullets, and pulling the trigger. I find these actions to be reckless.”
