Gold rush...magic medal haul delight

There was a memorable triumph for Bryony Page in the women's trampoline event, hard-earned redemption for rowing pair Emily Craig and Imogen Grant and a surprise success for the showjumping team.

The new medal army also included silvers for men's rowing duo Ollie Wynne-Griffith and Tom George and swimmers Ben Proud and Duncan Scott.

Diving pair Anthony Harding and Jack Laugher added to the precious metal tally with bronze in the men's three-metre synchro springboard final.

Stalwart Bryony, 33, who took silver in Rio and bronze in Tokyo, won Team GB's first ever gold in the trampoline in front of a 15,000-strong crowd at the Bercy Arena.

The double world champion from Crewe, who qualified for the final in fifth place after landing very close to the edge of the trampoline in her second routine, upped her game in the final round.

The biology graduate held her head in her hands and looked in disbelief when her score topped the table.

Her victory was confirmed when China's Hu Yicheng crumbled under pressure and suffered a fall during her routine.

Bryony said: "It hasn't sunk in at all and it means so much. I love the sport and I am so glad I can compete in it - I love this competition. I just jump up and down on a trampoline and make it look good."

Meanwhile, rowing duo Emily, 31, and Imogen, 28, who missed out on a medal in Tokyo three years ago by just one-hundredth of a second, triggered the golden day.

They were in tears as they shared an emotional embrace after holding off a late charge from the Romanian pair in the women's lightweight double sculls final.

The proud Britons, who belted out the National Anthem on the podium, will have the honour of being Olympic champions in perpetuity as the event is being removed from the Games.
