Get away! Cheapest summer holidays found in spots tourists 'assume have higher price tag'

HEADING to a dream holiday destination this summer might not be as expensive as it sounds.

Latest research to find the bestpriced package deals in Europe has turned up some "surprising" results, according to consumer group Which? Its analysis of more than 4,500 holidays revealed the least expensive were often in locations that people generally "assume to come with a higher price tag", such as Italy's Amalfi coast or the Greek islands.

The cheapest overall package holiday destination was Kalymnos, in Greece, where a week's stay will cost on average £847 per person.

The tiny and little-known island boasts secluded coves, sapphire seas, rugged mountains and charming towns and the picture postcard views to go with them.

To reach Kalymnos, holidaymakers have to fly to its busier neighbour, Kos, then hop on a boat for a 40-minute trip a journey that is included in the price of the package.
