Ex-BBC boss: No licence fee money should go to Trump
Daily Express
|November 17, 2025
THE BBC should not pay a penny to Donald Trump, former director-general Lord Tony Hall has said.
In response to the US president's threat to sue the corporation, Lord Hall told Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, no licence-fee money should go to the world's most powerful man.
He said: "No, should not happen.
"I don't think we should agree to any money being paid to Trump. You're talking about licence fee payers' money. You're talking about public money. It would not be appropriate."
APOLOGY
The controversy stems from a spliced clip of Mr Trump's January 6, 2021 speech, which the BBC has admitted created a "mistaken impression" of inciting violence, leading to apologies.
