England counting on Mead energy boost

SARINA WIEGMAN says Beth Mead will give her England side “extra energy” following her international recall. 

The Arsenal star has not played for England since November 2022 following an ACL injury that forced her to miss the World Cup in the summer.

But she was named in the Lionesses squad yesterday after she started for the Gunners in a 3-0 win against Brighton last weekend.

Mead last played for England in a 4-0 win against Japan a year ago, but could now feature against Holland at Wembley on December 1 and against Scotland at Hampden Park four days later.

“It’s really nice she’s played minutes,” said Wiegman. “She’s in a good place and still building, too. That was a very good phone call, she was very happy.
