Elton: I thought sun was going down on my career

SIR Elton John has said he nearly didn't make his new album because he was in an "awful state" over the Israel-Gaza war.

The pop superstar, who was 78 on Tuesday, revealed his anguish to a star-studded sell-out concert at the London Palladium on Wednesday.

He gave a rip-roaring performance to more than 2,000 at the gig to mark his new album, Who Believes In Angels?, with US singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile.

But before An Evening With Elton John And Brandi Carlile, he told the audience he was so disillusioned with the world he was ready to rip up all his new music plans.
