Downton star's failure to stop animal cruelty

DOWNTON Abbey star Peter Egan is demanding to know why two Governments have failed to enact a ban on advertising overseas attractions that feature performing animals.

The actor and animal welfare campaigner said that in the two years since it passed in 2023 neither Labour nor the Conservatives have so far enforced the Animals (Low-Welfare Activities Abroad) Act.

The Act would ban holiday adverts for attractions abroad which harm animals to make them perform tricks for tourists.

Mr Egan, 78, said: "Neither Government has chosen to enact the Act. It makes me ask rather large questions about what they are frightened of. And if you have an Act that has got the support of in excess of 80% of the population, who is the Government working for?
