Crackdown on Iranian activities in UK

SPIES and crooks working for Iran could be jailed for up to five years amid growing fears they are “increasingly emboldened”.

Security minister Dan Jarvis said the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps intelligence services and Iran’s ministry of intelligence and security were being placed on the “enhanced tier” of the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme.

This means operatives will have to register, or face five years in jail if they refuse to do so. Mr Jarvis also revealed a new proscription tool could be created to highlight the threat posed by the state and linked organisations, such as the IRGC.
