Councils draw on backstop funding

NEARLY half of councils dipped into emergency budgets last year, according to the TaxPayers’ Alliance.

Just over 47% which published accounts for 2023-24 saw an increase in their usable reserves.

These are funds used for certain purposes, often raised from cancelled or postponed spending.
