Cost of moving house hits £51k

THE bill for moving home has soared to £51,784, research shows with most people having to stump up nearly £6,000 unexpectedly.

Much of the full outlay is the mortgage deposit - an average £42,416 based on a typical 15% of the property value.

Then there is the estate agency fee required when selling an existing property, coming in at £4,015 based on 1.42% of the average selling price.

On top of that the average buyer will also pay £1,639 in stamp duty, £1,300 in removal costs, £1,263 in conveyancing fees and £1,150 for a valuation and surveys.
