On a 48-hour trip to Cambridge, HOLLY FLEET gets her head turned by fresh sights in the historic city
-
Cambridge is no hidden gem, but in recent years it has had a boost of interest from Brits looking for a smart staycation thanks to its history, breathtaking buildings and standout food and drink scene. Curious about the fuss, I booked a 48-hour escape to the leafy city.
If you're looking for an enchanting way to explore Cambridge's stunning college architecture, punting is the obvious way to go.
A friendly guide from Let's Go Punting accompanied me, and handed me a glass of champagne upon arrival.
I got lucky with the weather and we meandered past picturesque colleges and ivy-covered bridges.
But it would still be pure magic, now, on a chilly day, wrapped in a blanket, sipping hot chocolate while drifting under the Bridge of Sighs as the sun sets.
Back on dry land, I walked a short distance to a local beer house, The Pint Shop. I shied away from the pints and went for a glass of rosé, with a fabulous chicken Caesar salad to line my stomach before an early night.
My accommodation for the weekend was the ultra-sleek Clayton Hotel, located just a short stroll from the railway station. It’s the kind of place that instantly makes you forget the stress of the daily grind.
