Senior Tory James Cleverly says families and business are “suffering”

THE UK is under a tax attack from Labour which is causing huge misery for millions, James Cleverly says today.

The former Home Secretary insists families and businesses are suffering as a result of "ineptitude, arrogance, and hypocrisy".

And he fears worse is yet to come with the national insurance hike, inheritance tax changes,capital gains tax rises and VAT on school fees all while the stuttering economy flirts with recession.

Mr Cleverly said Labour's callousness is exemplified by OAPs having cold weather payments snatched away during the coldest winter in 15 years. He added: "The first six months of this Labour Government have been a disaster.

"People are suffering, businesses struggling and our international reputation is being damaged." On entering No10, Sir Keir Starmer had declared Britain was experiencing the "sunlight of hope" as he promised "national renewal and a return of politics to public service". But the reality has been distinctly different with his administration beset by scandal.

Mr Cleverly, who stood in the Tory leadership race won by Kemi Badenoch, said Labour's intentions became clear just 25 days after the party won power when Chancellor Rachel Reeves made it a priority to claw back winter fuel payments of up to £300 from 10 million OAPs.
