'Anti-English' tax hits price of houses in holiday spots

HOUSE prices have plunged after what tourism bosses claim is an "antiEnglish" attack on second-home owners and holiday lets in a picturesque coastal area.
Values in Gwynedd have fallen by more than 12% in the past year since its Welsh nationalist-led council insisted owners seek owners seek planning permission to buy properties to use as holiday homes or to rent out.
Second-home owners in the largely Welsh-speaking county must also pay a 150% council tax premium.
Ashford Price, of the National Show Caves Centre for Wales, has warned of "serious economic damage" and branded the tax charges an anti-English move.
Gwynedd includes Snowdonia and North Wales seaside towns such as Abersoch, where celebrities including Coleen Rooney have stayed. Telly adventurer Bear Grylls lives on nearby St Tudwal's Island West.
