AMORIM HAS TO CARRY CAN FOR DEFEAT

RUBEN AMORIM barely stood still for the entire duration of a nerve-addled Europa League final.

He probably covered more ground than Manchester United's Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.

Amorim did not know whether to have his hands in his pockets or out. In fact, his anxiety was a tone setter for a match that barely featured a confident passage of play from either side.

United's Portuguese head coach always cuts an obsessed figure in and around the technical area, but this was at a different level.

And, quite frankly, his uncertainty, change of game plan - starting Alejandro Garnacho, right, on the substitutes' bench - was one of the key factors in this excruciating defeat for United.

Amorim has been afforded a considerable benefit of the doubt since his appointment at Old Trafford last year, but this cannot be dressed up as anything other than a failure on his part.
