'AI will help put more bobbies on the beat'

BRITAIN'S newest chief constable believes technology like artificial intelligence could free up officers to walk the beat.

The Everton-supporting chief — who follows in the footsteps of his ex-inspector dad - said UK forces must keep pace with AI and also be “more agile” in providing information to battle social media lies.

But with £31million of cuts to manage, he vowed not to reduce visible policing, saying: “The cornerstone of policing for me is neighbourhood policing.
