£1.6m fine for NHS trust over failings that led to baby deaths

AN NHS trust has been fined £1.6million over "avoidable failings" that led to the deaths of three babies in 2021.
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust admitted six counts of failing to give safe care and treatment.
Adele O'Sullivan died 26 minutes after her birth on April 7, Kahlani Rawson was four days old when he died on June 15 and Quinn Parker passed away on July 16 at just a day.
Nottingham Magistrates' Court was told "serious and systemic failures" had exposed mums Daniela O'Sullivan, Ellise Rawson and Emmie Studencki and their babies to significant risk of harm.
District Judge Grace Leong told the hearing - which was attended by Anthony May, NUH chief executive since September 2022 - that a "catalogue of failures" in the maternity unit was "avoidable".
