PONTARDDULAIS have moved into a challenging position in the South Wales Premier Cricket League.

Bont took advantage of their rivals’ inactivity on a rain-affected weekend to climb to third in the table thanks to a crushing win over Swansea.

The St Helen's side, in contrast, are in an increasingly troubling situation. This was their ninth defeat from 10 matches and they remain anchored to the foot of the table and staring at the threat of relegation.

Pontarddulais’ 136-run victory was built around a fine performance by their top order who amassed 232-5 in 37 overs.

Caniston Gunaratnam led the way with a sparkling 76 off just 40 balls. It featured eight boundaries and four sixes.

He was given excellent support by Carl Roberts (61) and Mathew Fisher (44). Tim Moses took 3-65.

Then it was the turn of Richard Grant to take centre stage. The former Glamorgan all-rounder took 7-19 in a devastating spell as Swansea were dismissed for just 96.

Usk could have gone second behind leaders Newport with a win over Abergavenny, but they ended up losing a low-scoring clash by just one wicket.
