FOR the first game of a highly antici-pated season, Trinity Mid-Whitgiftian hosted Streatham and Marlbor-ough, looking to start strong after a productive preseason in the Surrey Championship Division Three East.

Malhotra's fine spell helps his team to claim opening victory

Captain Sam Williams won the toss and elected to bat under the blue skies with a strong lineup.

Kunal Patel (4) fell early to the pull shot and Richard Piggin (17) was caught at slip off one that popped, bringing Sadeesh Jayawardena and Williams to the crease.

Tensions were alleviated as the two built a partnership in their typical classy styles, scoring at quite the clip off a variety of spin and medium pace.

With 105 on the board, Williams (41) was dismissed by S&M's left arm orthodox bowler, bringing an eager Jamie Collins to the crease.

He picked up the mantle as the two scored freely until Jayawardena (57) was out caught and bowled.
