Hospital accused of backpay 'scandal'

KEY staff at Nuneaton’s hospital claim they are caught in a payback ‘scandal’ 150 Heath Care Assistants (HCA) at the George Eliot Hospital have signed a petition demanding action over what they say is a delay in being awarded money they are owed.

An HCA, who did not want to be named, said: “We are so frustrated. This is a scandal.” They said that they have been forced to fight to get backpay for carrying out their jobs - and the staff member claimed the hospital is delaying the process.

“In 2021 the job description for band two Health Care Assistants was updated and from then on, thousands of HCAs in NHS trusts across the country have been working above their pay grade,” the local hospital worker explained.
