Council under more pressure to help city market traders struggling to attract custom

COVENTRY City Council has come under further pressure to give more support to market traders who say they are struggling to attract customers due to the impact of the £450million City Centre South regeneration.

Just days after a protest was held in Upper Precinct, a petition was presented to the latest full council meeting with questions also being asked of the cabinet member responsible for the project.

Cllr John Blundell sponsored a 549-name petition calling on the council to support the traders, adding that the building work meant shoppers either thought it was closed or were unable to find it. He told the meeting: “I attended the rally in the Precinct and there was almost overwhelming support and sympathy for the market traders who are undoubtedly facing a very difficult plight.
