Club embarks on another chapter in their journey

BRIDGWATER United Women have been laying the foundations as they embark on yet another new chapter for the side.

From the origins of Yeovil Town and their place in the Women’s Super League, years of turmoil ultimately saw the team fall out of existence as it was relegated from the top divisions of the women’s pyramid.

Having played at times at Dorchester Town, the gap between the men’s and women’s team at Yeovil became untenable and led to the reformation as Bridgwater United, competing in Division One South West level of the Women’s National League.

Playing at Fairfax Park alongside the men’s team, Bridgwater enjoyed a number of highs - including welcoming Manchester United in the FA Cup which saw a visit from club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to watch his daughter - before trouble again seemed to be brewing behind the scenes.

Again, Bridgwater found themselves playing away from Fairfax Park for large parts of last season, hosting games at various places including their return to Huish Park against Bristol Rovers and at Keynsham Town's AJN Stadium.

Just before their Somerset Cup win in April, it was announced that Bridgwater have found yet another new home and will be moving further away from its original roots in Yeovil.

From next season, the current Robins will be relocating to Clevedon Town's Hand Stadium in a ground-share with the Clevedon men’s team. The ground meets the grading requirements for the Women's National League and gives the club some much-needed stability going forward.

According to reports, the move also aligns with Bridgwater’s new three-year strategy as they look to try and climb the pyramid once more.
