'Car park fight will go on to safeguard a vital asset'

THE Save Norbins Road Car Park campaign is celebrating a significant victory following confirmation that Aster Group has formally withdrawn from its agreement with Somerset Council to develop housing on the Norbins Road car park site.
-
Campaign representatives have said they were notified that Aster has begun the process of rescinding its contract, bringing its involvement in the proposed redevelopment to an end.
However, they stressed while Aster’s decision marks an important milestone, the campaign stresses that the battle is not over.
They said Somerset Council retains ownership of the land and may still choose to pursue redevelopment with a different provider and that until the council commits to protecting the car park for future generations, the campaign will continue its work to safeguard this vital community asset.
