Penobscot voters reelect Leighton, pass GSA funding

Penobscot held town elections at the firehouse on a bright and cold Monday, March 3. Ballots were cast by 212 citizens, a turnout that was down approximately 30 percent from 2024.

In the one contested town officer race, Sara Leighton won a second three-year term on the select board. A local real estate broker, Leighton defeated Scott Ferden, the town's former fire chief, by 162-44.

"We are in the middle of a number of important projects in town, and I want to see them through," Leighton said after the results were announced.

Two uncontested candidates were elected to seats on the school board. James Goodman will serve his fifth term, and Edward DeVito his second term. The unopposed candidates for the town's finance committee, Casey McGraw and W. Royce Harden, were also reelected to three-year terms.

Voters approved two funding measures on the ballot.
